Descripción del producto

Eco-Friendly Recycled Nylon Fiber The Ideal Material for Sustainable Textile Production

Nylon fiber, also named as polyamide fiber, mainly have 2 types: nylon 6 and nylon 66. The most prominent advantage of nylon fiber is its excellent wear resistance; also, it has good elasticity, the elastic recovery rate is comparable to wool; meanwhile, with small specific gravity(second only to polypropylene fiber and lighter than polyester fiber), nylon fiber can be processed into fine, soft and smooth silk, woven into a beautiful and durable fabric. It also has same corrosion resistance as polyester fiber and resists worms or mold.
It can be used for spinning or needle-punched non-woven fabrics. And finished products are widely used in clothing, quilt covers, socks, blankets, carpets, fishing nets, tire cords, etc.

How is it Made? The Two Main Processes

There are two primary sources for recycled nylon, each with a different production process:

1. Pre-Consumer (Post-Industrial) Waste

This involves recycling waste materials generated during the manufacturing process of nylon products. This includes:

  • Nylon fabric scraps from cutting rooms in apparel factories.

  • Discarded fishing nets (often called ghost nets).

  • Carpet fluff and waste from carpet manufacturing.

  • Industrial plastic waste from injection molding.

Process: This waste is collected, sorted, cleaned, and then mechanically broken down into small chips or flakes. These flakes are then melted and re-extruded into new nylon filament or staple fiber.

2. Post-Consumer Waste

This is more complex and involves collecting used nylon products at the end of their life cycle.

  • Sources: Old carpets, fishing nets from aquaculture and fishing industries, and rigid plastic components.

Process (Chemical Recycling):

  1. Collection & Sorting: Nylon waste (like fishing nets) is collected from oceans, landfills, etc.

  2. Cleaning & Shredding: The waste is thoroughly cleaned and shredded into small pieces.

  3. Depolymerization: This is the key step. Through a chemical process, the nylon waste is broken down to its base monomer, caprolactam.

  4. Repolymerization: The purified caprolactam is then re-polymerized to create brand new nylon 6 polymer.

  5. Extrusion: This new polymer is melted and extruded through a spinneret to create brand new, high-quality recycled nylon yarn.

Because it is chemically "reborn," this type of recycled nylon is identical in quality and performance to virgin nylon.

Key Properties and Benefits

  • Identical Performance: It retains all the desirable properties of virgin nylon: high strength, excellent abrasion resistance, elasticity, and durability.

  • Reduced Environmental Impact: This is the core benefit. It significantly reduces the use of crude oil (the raw material for virgin nylon), lowers energy consumption, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Waste Reduction: It divnets waste from landfills and oceans, turning a pollutant into a valuable resource. Recycling fishing nets, for example, helps combat ocean plastic pollution.

  • Circular Economy: It supports a circular model of production, where materials are kept in use for as long as possible.

Applications

  • Activewear: Leggings, sports bras, and athletic tops.

  • Swimwear: This is one of its most common uses, popularized by sustainable swimwear brands.

  • Outdoor & Technical Gear: Jackets, windbreakers, and backpacks due to its strength and lightweight nature.

  • Luggage: For durable and lightweight travel bags.

  • Carpeting: A major market, as it gives a second life to old carpets.

  • Accessories: Sunglasses, watch straps, and even jewelry.
